Rookery Lakes Cabin, Halvergate

Sleeps 6 | Two Exclusive Fishing Lakes | Carp to 35lb | Secluded Garden | Dog Friendly

For anglers looking for something a little different, Rookery Lakes Cabin is a Scandinavian-style hideaway in rural Norfolk with not one, but two fishing lakes exclusively for your use throughout your stay.

Set beside the water in Halvergate, the cabin comes with its own one-acre specimen lake and half-acre pleasure lake, all within peaceful, secluded surroundings. Whether you're planning a dedicated fishing holiday or simply want somewhere the whole family can relax while you get a few more hours on the bank, this is a very special place to escape to.

Two lakes, all yours

Fishing is at the heart of a stay at Rookery Lakes Cabin.

Guests have exclusive 24/7 use of both fishing lakes throughout their stay, so there's no need to compete for your favourite swim.

The one-acre specimen lake is stocked with carp to 35lb and tench to 9lb, while the half-acre pleasure lake offers a mix of carp, roach, rudd, bream and tench.

And because you're fishing private lakes rather than the Broads rivers, Rookery Lakes Cabin is an especially appealing choice for anglers looking for a fishing break while the Norfolk Broads river fishing season is closed.

Scandi-style comfort beside the water

The cabin is just as inviting inside, with a warm Scandinavian feel and an open-plan living space designed for relaxed holidays together.

There's lounge and dining seating for six and a fully fitted kitchen with an electric oven and hob, dishwasher, microwave and fridge/freezer. Free Wi-Fi and a Smart TV provide the home comforts when it's finally time to put the rods away.

Outside, the secluded enclosed garden is yours to enjoy, with a patio, outdoor furniture and a large gas BBQ – perfect for unwinding after a day beside the lakes.

Plenty of room for six

Rookery Lakes Cabin sleeps six across three bedrooms.

The main bedroom has a super king-size zip-and-link bed and its own en-suite shower room, while two further twin bedrooms each have two single beds.

There's also a family bathroom with a shower over the bath.

Peace and quiet, with Norfolk to explore

You may find it difficult to drag yourself away from the lakes, but Rookery Lakes Cabin also makes a peaceful rural base for exploring Norfolk.

The village pub is approximately one mile away, while the property is around 4.5 miles from local shops and 8 miles from Great Yarmouth and its beaches.

Reviews for Rookery Lakes Cabin

Rookery Lakes Cabin is a lovely place to stay – so much so, that we came back two months later! The cabin itself is new, comfortable, spacious, and has everything you could need, including a BBQ, full kitchen with dishwasher, Smart TV, etc.

The two lakes provide excellent fishing, with a pleasure lake right next to the cabin for beginners or more relaxed fishing (you absolutely will catch fish), and a specimen lake for those going for big Carp.

On our first trip, I visited with my wife and toddler, and we found it to be a great base for exploring the broads and local attractions. It is very close to places like Pettitts Adventure Park and Reedham, and not too far a drive from Wroxham, Yarmouth and other places well worth a visit. There are a number of nice pubs with gardens and good food within a short drive. The cabin’s garden is fenced off from the lake, which was great for allowing the toddler to run around and play without having to always keep him within grabbing distance. The owners also kindly provided a high chair and offered a travel cot, which was much appreciated.

A welcome basket was waiting for us when we arrived, with things like fresh bread, tea/coffee, milk, prosecco and other bits, and there is a book of useful notes on local attractions, food places, taxis, etc. There were even board games in the living room. It really is very thoughtfully done and adds to the lovely ambience of the place.

On the second trip, I came back with friends to do some serious fishing. We all caught personal best Carp, with a number between 20-25lb, and one just over 30lb. We also caught some nice big Tench. It is very good fun to have exclusive access to the lakes, and Tom the owner provided some invaluable tips and advice. Plenty of nets and mats are provided onsite, which helps to stop any contamination from other waters, and has the bonus of meaning you don’t have to bring your own. You can also buy bait, which worked well for us on the big lake. The lake rules are all very sensible, and you can see it is well managed and cared for.

In summary, I wholeheartedly recommend Rookery Lakes Cabin, both for serious fishing trips, and as a lovely base for a family get-away. I’m very glad we found it and hope to go back again soon.
