Sandringham

No article about this county’s stately homes would be complete without the Sandringham Estate, the Queen’s Norfolk residence. Nestling within 60 acres of gardens, and more than 600 acres of country park, the house has a number of interesting royal possessions and fine vehicles that can be viewed in the museum. The ground floor of the house is open to the public, so you are able to explore where the Queen and members of the royal family spend some of their leisure time.

Blickling Hall

With its imposing yew tree walkway, gorgeous formal gardens, and breathtaking redbrick frontage, Blickling Hall Estate is as grand as it sounds – and then some. Situated in the meadows of the valley of the River Bure, the estate houses a nationally important book collection, while outside there is ample space for you to walk, or cycle, around.

Oxburgh Hall

From 1482, Oxburgh Hall was the family home of a Tudor noble family, the Bedingfields. The house, therefore, documents over 500 years of history, from a time of medieval austerity to the modern-day. Discover the walled orchard, a Catholic chapel, and the house’s priest hole, which may have been used during the era of religious persecution.
