“SHACKLES” is a well appointed spacious open plan bungalow, designed with a multiple patio windowed frontage and doors, to take advantage of the great open river views. Situated near a bend in the river the ever changing scenes take in The Swan Inn, the Southern Comfort pleasure cruiser and activities from the sailing club, which is close by.
There is a large protected verandah from which to enjoy outdoor dining or just simply relaxing and watch the world go by. Artists enjoy using this area to try to capture the ever changing activities and skies.
The verandah has optional gates at either end to turn it into a virtual giant play pen, so that young children can play safely almost unsupervised, whilst parents relax. There is a good sized lawn, fronting on to the river for more responsible children to play on. The great Bewilderwood adventure park is only a few minutes away and Horning village is only a short walk in the opposite direction, where there is a conventional playground situated further back in the village.
The property sleeps 6, with 3 bedrooms – 1 double with an en-suite shower room; 1 double room and a twin bedded room. All rooms have wardrobes, dressing tables, bedside cabinets and heating. There is a family bathroom with heated towel rack.
The open plan design allows the views to be enjoyed from any of the three sofas in the comfortable lounge; from the adjoining dining area with a generous sized table and even from the kitchen area.
There is a small utility room which has a sink for messy tasks like making up ground-bait for fishing, particularly useful as there is good fishing in this area. This bend in the river is also well known as a destination for pike fisherman particularly over the colder months. The generous number of electric heaters allows the spectators of these hardy types to watch indoors in comfort!
The property has both steps access and a ramp. The patio doors have disability cills to minimise the risk of tripping over them. Freeview TV ; broadband Parking for 2 cars fridge ; freezer; washing machine/tumble dryer. All electric hob/oven/microwave

The Shackles. Just returned home from a fantastic holiday on the Norfolk broads stayed at The Shackles and I've got to say I've stayed in several Riverside Rentals properties which have all been great but I have now definitely found my favourite, the location is second to none with breath taking views of the river bure on swan bend overlooking the Swan Inn. The cottage is very well appointed with all mod cons, furnished & decorated to a very high standard and is immaculately clean & well presented. I also rented Rambler day boat which was delivered by Richard and a comprehensive hand over was given on every aspect of driving & saftey on the broads. Rambler is a great day boat with all amenities required for cruising the rivers. Thank you to all Riverside Rentals staff for another memorable stay, I'll definitely be returning to the Shackles in the future.
Just returned from a great week in Horning. Shackles is a wonderful property with everything you need to ensure a comfortable holiday. Together with wonderful river views, the addition of the full length covered verandah, along with the removable gates at either end, ensured my two grandchildren could play safely without the constant supervision that would have been required otherwise. My family would certainly have no hesitation in returning in the near future.
Beautiful property, lovely location all mod cons included.
We hired this lovely cottage in the October Half Term and had a fantastic time. The house was really kept well very modern and clean with all possible needs catered for.
The fishing wasn't the best but this does happen on the main river, however this may be the time of year. We did catch a nice Pike and some decent smaller course fish.
Gorgeous setting on the Horning river bend, was really pleasant sitting out at any time of day. There is a 15 min walk round to Horning Village and night time you would definitely need a torch as there is no lighting on the road.
We hired a boat for a few days too which was really nice, but there could have been an offer on this for a weeks hire.
We will without doubt be returning.
we have just spent a great week at this beautful cottage.fantastic views, wonderful cottage.we have been with riverside rentals before but this was the best yet, hope to be back next year. 14th to 21st october.
We have just had a short break at Shakles and once again riverside rentals have excelled themselves making this excellent well appointed very comfortable first class location available to hire .It as magnificent riverside views and we would recommend it for year round visits
