This unique property offers you the chance to stay in a Norfolk Windmill. Built in 1908 by Dan England a well respected and admired MillWright, Martham Mill also known as Bracys Mill has stood proudly over looking the River Thurne and Hickling Broad for over a century. The Windmill has been sensitively renovated in order not to detract from its original purpose but still has all the modern facilities you require to enjoy your holiday.
The Mill stands proud in its own enclosed garden surrounded by idyllic Broadland Marshes and can be reached by boat or a 10 minute walk along a concrete path from your individual car parking space.
Just stepping across the River Path onto the privately owned Mill Moorings you have your own comfortable seating area where you can picnic, fish, birdwatch, imagine stories of Nelson as a young man learning to sail on the close by Hickling Broad, watch the life on the River Thurne and adjacent Hickling Norfolk Wildlife Trust or just sit and do nothing.
Around The Mill within the enclosed garden are lovely areas to sit with seating provided to enjoy most splendid evening views across uninterrupted countryside, sit quietly and you may see The Barn Owl flying closely by.
From these moorings you will have full and exclusive use of Flow-Rider the Mills Day Boat if hired with the property. You will now be able to really explore The Norfolk Broads, you will be given full instruction, buoyancy aids, your first tank of fuel and full insurance. Flow Rider takes up to four, your pooches can come too, and is very easy to use.
If you wish to bring your own sailing Boat that is fine too, as there are sufficient moorings for your use but please let me know when booking.
The Mill sleeps up to four people but if your party is larger please chat to me as I do have other properties that may be available. There are two upward steps to enter the Mill, two downward steps to go into the ground floor extension and access to the second bedroom where two people sleep is via a wooden ladder so guests must be agile and possibly just a little adventurous! Please note that you will have to pass through the first floor bedroom to get to the second floor bedroom. For privacy there is a folding screen.
You enter on the ground floor and here you will find an open plan living area with comfy seating, a round table for dining which has been fashioned around the main wooden Mill Shaft, television, fitted kitchen complete with dishwasher, fridge and Mill Cog Wheel!
There is a ground floor extension leading from the ground floor living area and here you will find your bathroom complete with shower. In this extension are viewing windows of adjacent woodland where you can sit and watch the small song birds. There are two steps from the living room / kitchen area to the bathroom /hall area.
From the hall you have an external door which leads you to your secluded barbque and outside round seating, straight from The Mill.
On the first floor which is accessed via a hand made ‘standard style’ wooden stair case you will find the double bedroom, complete with double bed, wardrobe, drawers but most importantly the most splendid views as has the second floor bedroom. The second floor bedroom is accessed via a ladder not too steep but nevertheless a ladder and not a standard set of stairs. This room has two single beds, wardrobe and drawers.
All linen is provided and beds are made for your arrival, Towels are provided as are tea towels. All you need to bring are your clothes and a food delivery can also be received on the day of your arrival by prior arrangement.
Heating is included and is by electric convector heaters and electric wood burner style heater in the lounge.
You can bring your doggy friend on holiday here too and you will be able to enjoy long walks without even getting into your car. Martham has food stores, Chemist, Post Office, Fish and Chips and a Chinese Shop, Butchers and Public Houses. The local village of Potter Heigham offers a dog friendly pub, large store selling nearly everything you will need and a huge fishing tackle shop.
If you can hire canoes from both Martham Boatyard and Herbert Woods at Potter Heigham.
You can access the beach at Horsey by taking Flow- Rider across Horsey Broad and then walking the 2.5 miles to the Dog Friendly beach. At Horsey you will find another Wind Mill recently renovated but you can’t stay in this one, cafe and toilets are here to, so well worth a days visit.

We stayed here the beginning of July for 2 weeks had an absolutely fabulous time.Like to say thanks to Jan for an amazing place to stay and thanks to Ken for helping us on our arrival and anything we needed. Fishing was amazing and we had use of a boat too was lovely going out on it on an evening. Would recommend the Windmill for anyone who loves the peace and quiet and beautiful surroundings will definetly be returning.
