Getting garden envy in Norfolk

Away from Norfolk’s dramatic coastline and wonderful Broadland waterways, the county has another gem up its sleeve; or should that be gems? Norfolk is in fact as famed for its abundant countryside and glorious gardens as it is for its aquatic wildlife, and some of these wonders should be enjoyed when holidaying in the county.

Gooderstone Water Gardens: Combining skilled horticulture with a little of that Broads magic, these water gardens are spectacular, regardless of what time of the year you visit. Avid gardeners will take inspiration from the four ponds, mature trees, colourful borders, and nature trails.

Sheringham Park Gardens: Considered Sheringham’s jewel, this woodland garden is filled to the brim with flowers of every kind, trails to be explored, and views across to the sea. With viewing towers dotted about the gardens, you’re unlikely to miss a moment. A great time to visit is when the hundreds of rhododendrons are in full bloom from mid-March through to early summer.

The Bressingham Gardens: The water gardens and park gardens are stunning but perhaps a little impractical to reproduce in the home garden, however, Bressingham is the perfect spot for those looking for ideas as to how to work a little magic into their own gardens. With more than 8,000 species of plants, including flowers, shrubs, and trees, the gardens inspire and enthral the visitor.

Felbrigg Hall Estate and Gardens: As you would expect, there are some fantastic gardens to be found on Norfolk’s many fine estates and Felbrigg is no exception. Fresh produce aplenty is grown on the carefully tended allotments in the walled garden, and fruit trees, shrubs and beautiful flowers and well-manicured lawns are waiting to be admired. A dovecote constructed with Norfolk red brick is a central feature. Make sure you visit the beehives in the garden’s orchard where you can watch the worker bees returning with their bounty.

Being as rich in gorgeous gardens as it is, Norfolk is a fantastic holiday destination for anybody hoping to pick up a few horticultural tips, or to simply admire somebody else’s handiwork. You are sure to find numerous gardens within easy reach of your accommodation, making us well placed for some of the country’s best horticultural features.
