Treading the boards in the Broads: Visiting the theatres of Norfolk
Norfolk is home to a variety of fantastic theatres, including The Pier Pavilion in Cromer, The Britannia Pier Theatre in Great Yarmouth, the Theatre Royal in Norwich, and the Norwich Playhouse, along with several others. If you’re going to spend any time at all in this culturally rich county, be sure to research your nearest theatre or playhouse in order to sample some of the stage’s very best offerings. Here, we look at some of the establishments listed above, and share some of this year’s exciting offerings…
The Pier Pavilion, Cromer
Nestled at the end of the famous Cromer Pier, the Pavilion has seen the beginnings of many a showbiz career, and is the home of Europe’s only “End of the Pier” Show, which delights tourists during the summer and winter seasons. Among this year’s offerings are The Manfreds, the Magic of the Bee Gees, as well as choral, ballet, and dramatic offerings, and visits by a range of comedians and tribute acts. Isn’t that what visits to the seaside are all about?
The Theatre Royal, Norwich
As well as hosting several events for this summer’s Norfolk and Norwich Festival, the Theatre Royal will host musical performances of The Bodyguard, Guys and Dolls, and Hairspray. Comedians Sean Locke, Sarah Millican, Julian Clary, and Russell Kane will perform. Shakespearean plays and a range of opera and ballet will also be on offer. You won’t want to miss out!
The Britannia Pier Theatre, Great Yarmouth
The seaside doesn’t get any more traditional than Great Yarmouth, and that includes evenings filled with great family entertainment and fun. The Britannia Pier Theatre, nestled on the edge of the famous landmark, will this year feature Sarah Millican, Jim Davidson, Showaddywaddy, and Roy Chubby Brown.
It is well worth researching the theatres that are located within easy reach of your self-catering accommodation. You never know the famous faces, or undiscovered talents, that you might see.
